General Information
The details under this section are based on the author's experience and opinions, and are based on the limited experience the author has. Remember to follow your gut and refer to other sources of information if and when you are unsure about something. Although a lot of information on this site may seem prescriptive, it is just advice.
The information may have a bias towards growing in temperate conditions in the southern hemisphere. Because of this, months will never be mentioned, only seasons, and the positioning information may be upside down (e.g. north facing areas receive winter sun and summer shade). Notes will be made about this where possible but it's likely something will be missed.
Where information is sourced from another website or publication, it will appear in the references or in the case of a figure/image, it will be within or in proximity to the figure.
This information is offered to help and encourage you, the reader, to enjoy growing orchids. They are a fantastic, varied plant, and often it's not just the flowers that are interesting but also the range of shapes and structures they have in their everyday growth and function. Enjoy.
