Buchtien's Notylia is a sympodial hot growing orchid belonging to the sub family Epidendroideae native to Peru. It is named after the German Orchid Collector in Central America in the 1900's.

Plant Description

Sympodial. Grows to 9cm. Each new growth has a single erect oblong shaped leaf that grows to 2.5-9cm long. Pseudobulbs grow to 0.2-2cm

Climate

Grows at low to high elevations. Rainfall ranges from 20mm to 150mm per day, heaviest in July and lightest in February. Humidity ranges from 63% to 78%, highest in August and lowest in March. Temperature ranges from 15C to 32C, highest in June (22C to 32C) and lowest in January (15C to 24C).

Watering

These orchids prefer a wet-dry cycle between waterings, they should be watered frequently but only when the moisture is approaching dryness, where the pot feels light and/or the media looks dry. Keep an eye on mounted orchids in warm weather as they may dehydrate quickly.
