Also known as: The Contaypaccha Odontoglossum in the subfamily: Epidendroideae
Native to: Peru
General Information
The Contaypaccha Odontoglossum is a sympodial cool to warm growing orchid belonging to the sub family Epidendroideae native to Peru. It is named after a district in the state of Junin Peru.
Plant Description
Sympodial. Grows to 75cm. Each new growth has numerous arching lance shaped leaves that grow to 3.5-75cm long. Pseudobulbs grow to 1.5-3cm
Climate
Grows at high elevations. Rainfall ranges from 1mm to 69mm per day, heaviest in August and lightest in January. Temperature ranges from 11C to 27C, highest in April (15C to 27C) and lowest in January (11C to 25C).
Watering
These orchids are sensitive to excessive watering and should only be watered when they look thirsty. Water infrequently and ensure that the roots are dry before watering. Keep an eye on them especially during hot weather as overwatering can lead to rot, whereas underwatering may result in wilting or shriveling, which while unattractive, will not kill the plant.
Potting
This plant does well mounted.
