Oncidium herzogii
Also known as: Herzog's Oncidium in the subfamily: Epidendroideae
General Information
Herzog's Oncidium is a sympodial cool to warm growing orchid belonging to the sub family Epidendroideae. It is named after the German Botanist in the 1900's.
Plant Description
Sympodial. Grows to 10cm. Each new growth has numerous erect leaves that grow to 0.8-7cm long. Pseudobulbs grow to 1-3.5cm
Climate
Grows at low to high elevations. Rainfall ranges from 8mm to 120mm per day, heaviest in August and lightest in February. Humidity ranges from 54% to 76%, highest in October and lowest in February. Temperature ranges from 10C to 31C, highest in April (20C to 31C) and lowest in January (10C to 22C).
Watering
These orchids are sensitive to excessive watering and should only be watered when they look thirsty. Water infrequently and ensure that the roots are dry before watering. Keep an eye on them especially during hot weather as overwatering can lead to rot, whereas underwatering may result in wilting or shriveling, which while unattractive, will not kill the plant.
