Oncidium ouricanense
Also known as: The Ouricana Oncidium in the subfamily: Epidendroideae
Native to: Bahia - Brazil
General Information
The Ouricana Oncidium is a sympodial hot growing orchid belonging to the sub family Epidendroideae native to Brazil. It is named after a mountain range in Bahia Brazil.
Plant Description
Sympodial. Each new growth has numerous lance shaped oblong shaped leaves that grow to 1-12cm long. Pseudobulbs grow to 2-4.5cm
Climate
Grows at low to high elevations. Rainfall ranges from 25mm to 152mm per day, heaviest in September and lightest in March. Temperature ranges from 10C to 26C, highest in August (13C to 26C) and lowest in January (10C to 21C).
Watering
These orchids are sensitive to excessive watering and should only be watered when they look thirsty. Water infrequently and ensure that the roots are dry before watering. Keep an eye on them especially during hot weather as overwatering can lead to rot, whereas underwatering may result in wilting or shriveling, which while unattractive, will not kill the plant.
Potting
This plant does well mounted.
