Otoglossum arminii
Also known as: Armin's Otoglossum in the subfamily: Epidendroideae
Native to: Departamento del Huila - Colombia Sao Paulo - Brazil
General Information
Armin's Otoglossum is a sympodial cold to warm growing orchid belonging to the sub family Epidendroideae native to Colombia and Brazil. It is named after the Latin Name for Hermann, probably Herman Wagner late in the 19th century.
Plant Description
Sympodial. Grows to 5-15cm. Each new growth has numerous leathery erect, rigid, oblong shaped leaves that grow to 4-12cm long. Pseudobulbs grow to 2-3.5cm. The plant tends to climb or sprawl with each new growth
Climate
Grows at low to high elevations. Rainfall ranges from 102mm to 267mm per day, heaviest in November and lightest in April. Temperature ranges from 9C to 19C, highest in April (11C to 19C) and lowest in January (9C to 17C).
Watering
These orchids prefer a wet-dry cycle between waterings, they should be watered frequently but only when the moisture is approaching dryness, where the pot feels light and/or the media looks dry. Keep an eye on mounted orchids in warm weather as they may dehydrate quickly.
Fertiliser
These plants do well with slow release fertiliser at the rate of 2-3 pellets per cup (250ml) of media. Additional fertiliser during the growth period may be beneficial, but not necessary.
