Plectrophora zarumensis
Also known as: The Zaruma Plectrophora in the subfamily: Epidendroideae
Native to: Provincia de El Oro - Ecuador
General Information
The Zaruma Plectrophora is a sympodial cool to warm growing orchid belonging to the sub family Epidendroideae native to Ecuador. It is named after a town in Ecuador.
Plant Description
Sympodial. Each new growth has a single elliptic oblong shaped leaf that grows to 1.2-9cm long. Pseudobulbs grow to 0.6-1cm
Climate
Grows at low to high elevations. Rainfall ranges from 8mm to 79mm per day, heaviest in August and lightest in March. Temperature ranges from 13C to 23C, highest in September (16C to 23C) and lowest in February (13C to 18C).
Watering
These orchids are sensitive to excessive watering and should only be watered when they look thirsty. Water infrequently and ensure that the roots are dry before watering. Keep an eye on them especially during hot weather as overwatering can lead to rot, whereas underwatering may result in wilting or shriveling, which while unattractive, will not kill the plant.
